Alsace wines are renowned for their exceptional quality and distinctiveness, somewhat off-piste and more Germanic in style compared to the rest of France. Produced in the Alsace region of north-eastern France, these wines showcase a rich diversity of grape varieties, including Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat, among others.
The terroir of Alsace is marked by a unique blend of factors, such as the Vosges Mountains protecting the vineyards from rain, a continental climate with warm summers and cool autumns, and a patchwork of diverse soils including granite, limestone, and clay. These elements contribute to the wines' expressive aromatics, vibrant acidity, and rich flavors. From dry and mineral-driven to lusciously sweet, Alsace wines exhibit remarkable complexity and are highly regarded by wine enthusiasts around the world.
This bundle includes 3 of our favourite Alsace wines in a variety of styles:
- Mittnact Cuvee Epice - Aromatic, spicy, textural. 'Epice' meaning spicy - this wine was born out of a marriage of a Japanese chef and a French winemaker, specifically for the purpose of complimenting spicy dishes. Slightly off-dry with a subtle sweetness on the finish.
- Gentil 'Hugel' Alsace - An enticing blend of prolific Alsace varietals. This is the perfect demonstration and example of Alsace wine, with the spiciness of Gewurztraminer, the body of Pinot Gris, the finesse of Riesling, the aromas of Muscat and the refreshing character of Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner all coming together harmoniously.
- Leon Beyer 'Reserve Personnelle' Gewurztraminer - Gewürztraminer is probably the best-known Alsace varietal, and this one from Léon Beyer is full-bodied and well-structured. Its intense, bouquet displays rich aromas of exotic fruit, flowers and spices (gewurz = spicy in German). Powerful and seductive, and frankly delicious.
